Even in the best environments there will be “exotic fish,” or students with chronic behavioral difficulties. On these pages I will post quick reference guides of common teacher mistakes and effective strategies for working with students with particular behaviors. It should be remembered however that these pages have a significant limitation–I haven’t met your student. Therefore, use these pages to try to get a better sense of the direction that you might go with particular students, but always know that students that might fit these descriptions on the surface may need very different strategies according to the function of the behavior for that student.
